The fourteenth television series in the MCU is finally here, with Ironheart premiering back on June 24. However, the series, like many in today’s climate, was struck by controversy before it had even first aired, with review bombers leaving a flurry of awful reviews on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes which left the series with one of the worst audience score in the MCU’s history before a minute had been viewed.
Thankfully, this issue was rectified as the show debuted, eventually leading to a 55% score today that better reflects the mixed opinions fans have earnestly felt about the show, in contrast to the huge 86% score delivered by critics. However, the trouble seemingly won’t end for Ironheart, with the Dominique Thorne-led series taking a huge hit on IMDb with a score that, once again, reflects the hatred of a few rather than the balanced opinions of many. Currently on the platform, Ironheart has a score of just 3.5/10. This is despite none of the three available episodes showcasing a score lower than 5.3/10, with review bombers clearly not extending their attack to individual episodes themselves.
Is ‘Ironheart’ As Poor as its IMDb Score Suggests?
Following her limited MCU debut in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Thorne stars as the titular armor-clad genius inventor set to carry the torch of the character type from Robert Downey Jr.‘s Iron Man. Helmed by Chinaka Hodge, who has previous credits on the likes of The Midnight Club and Snowpiercer, the show boasts quite an impressive cast, including the likes of Cree Summer, Sacha Baron Cohen, Anthony Ramos, Alden Ehrenreich, Lyric Ross, Manny Montana, and Regan Aliyah. All the components for success are there, but has it achieved any?
Well, overall, it is fair to say that Ironheart has been thus far underwhelming. Although not as bad as its IMDb score suggests, some are calling it one of the poorer entries in an MCU television catalog that boasts the highs of Loki and WandaVision. In his review for Collider, Mike Thomas awarded Ironheart a mediocre 5/10, saying, “Ironheart had so much potential,” but “the bulk of the cast is ultimately wasted in either cameo roles or given very little to work with.” He continued, “Ironheart has the unusual task of not only being a spin-off to Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, but also a legacy successor to the Iron Man trilogy, and the magic elements tie it to the likes of Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness. All of this Marvel baggage weighs down the plot, leading to everything feeling unsatisfying”
