For fans that need their fix of Invincible, Image Comics has them covered with two upcoming compendiums. With a long-running comic book, hit animated series and even an upcoming video game, the franchise has been a groundbreaking success. Now fans have the chance to get to know a little bit more about the world with two devoted collections.
Image Comics and Skybound Entertainment just announced that they would be publishing two compendium collections of heroes seen in Invincible. Tech Jacket and The Astounding Wolf-Man, two stories set in the Invincible Universe, are finally receiving oversized collections like the original Invincible ongoing.
Invincible co-creator Robert Kirkman noted that interest in both characters spiked after their cameos in the show’s third season and that now was the perfect time to bring both series back. Tech Jacket Compendium collects Tech Jacket #1-8, Tech Jacket Digial #1-3, and Tech Jacket (2013) #1-12 while The Astounding Wolf-Man Compendium collects The Astounding Wolf-Man #1-25 and Invincible #57.
Invincible Universe Titles Getting Their Own Giant Collections
Fans Can Learn Everything About Invincible’s Underrated Allies
Before Robert Kirkman wrote Invincible, he wrote Tech Jacket, a series about a teenage boy bonding with an alien armor that gave him incredible power. Tech Jacket later appeared in Invincible before later getting another comic. Wolf-Man, on the other hand, was a direct spin-off of Invincible, and he even teamed up with Invincible before Wolf-Man got his own series.
Kirkman raises a solid point. Both Wolf-Man and Tech Jacket appeared in the show’s third season, primarily during “What Have I Done?”, the episode that featured the Invincible War. While neither Wolf-Man nor Tech Jacket had prominent roles in the episode, curious fans noticed their appearances. It only makes sense for Image and Skybound to capitalize on fan interest.
New Compendium Will Give Invincible Fans a Greater Appreciation for the Universe
This Could Even Lead to Spin-Offs If Fans are Lucky
Neither Tech Jacket nor The Astounding Wolf-Man found Invincible’s level of success, but to be fair, it took a while for Invincible to be noticed. Now that fans know there’s more than just Mark Grayson, these compendiums will give fans a better sense of the universe. Heck, if sales are good, spin-offs of the animated series are even possible.
Invincible is a red-hot property and if these compendiums’ sales are good, it’s not unreasonable to think these stories might have a real shot at being adapted as well. While it remains to be seen what the future holds animation-wise, these compendiums will go a long way in giving fans a better appreciation for the world Invincible inhabits.
