Jon Favreau has a long list of credits as an actor-director that fans love. His Iron Man film with Robert Downey Jr. kick-started the MCU as we know it, and he then turned his attention towards crafting a Star Wars universe on TV, giving us series like The Mandalorian led by Pedro Pascal, which has spawned a movie awaiting release next year. Now, Favreau has turned his attention towards another Disney IP, which will make fans very nostalgic – Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, and the series has found its golden trio.
Earlier this year, it was revealed that Favreau is developing a hybrid live-action/animated series based on Oswald, and now Deadline reports that the series has found its top-line talent in young actors Ravi Cabot-Conyers, Mykal-Michelle Harris, and Ryder Allen. All the kids will play middle schoolers: Cabot-Conyers stars as Jake, a hardworking student with a big heart. Harris will play Jen, an artistic kid who is always ahead of the game, and Allen will play Taylor, a cautious student who avoids turning down his friends.
While no further details have been revealed about the plot or format of the upcoming show, Oswald has had a long history with Disney. The rabbit was designed by Walt Disney shortly after opening the animation studio in 1923. But Universal soon took control of the character in 1928, and Disney created a new character as a replacement, who we now know as Mickey Mouse. Mickey and Oswald have a lot in common visually, but Favreau’s vision for the character is yet to be seen.
Where Have We Seen ‘Oswald the Lucky Rabbit’ Cast Before?
The new lead actors should look familiar. Cabot-Conyers is perhaps best known for playing Wim in Star Wars: Skeleton Crew. He also voiced Antonio in the hit Disney animated film Encanto, while his big screen credits include playing Leo in the feature thriller Grassland. Harris is best known for her work opposite Nicole Kidman in HBO’s Big Little Lies. Her credits also include Showtime’s The Affair, playing Santamonica Johnson Mixed-ish, and portraying a young Raven in Raven’s Home. Allen most recently played a young Oswald Cobblepott, working alongside Colin Farrell as an older Oz. He gave a chilling performance showcasing Oz’s deep, dark secrets in The Batman spin-off show The Penguin. He also starred as Sam in the Justin Timberlake-led film Palmer.
Currently, no further details are revealed about Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. Stay tuned to Collider for more such updates.
