The YRF Spy Universe saw a major theatrical event with the release of War 2, but the film’s final box office numbers reportedly fell short of the massive expectations. Now, it seems the film’s underperformance has led to some big changes for the next installment in the spy saga, Alpha.
According to new reports, producer Aditya Chopra is stepping in to personally guide the direction of Alpha, which stars Alia Bhatt in the lead role. This move is seen as a direct response to the lukewarm reception of War 2, as the studio wants to ensure its next spy film is a guaranteed blockbuster.
YRF Makes Changes After War 2 Disappoints
While War 2 started strong, it struggled to maintain its hold at the box office. This has reportedly made Yash Raj Films cautious, especially regarding Alpha. A recent report from journalist Subhash K Jha suggests that the studio is concerned about the experience of Alpha’s director, Shiv Rawail. Rawail previously directed the mini-series The Railway Men, and the studio is reportedly unsure if he is ready to handle a massive, high-stakes action film like Alpha.
To protect the future of the spy universe, Aditya Chopra is said to be taking a more hands-on role. The goal is to make sure the film not only meets but exceeds audience expectations, restoring the powerful brand image of the spy franchise.
‘Crucial Revisions’ Being Made To Alpha
The reports claim that significant changes are now being made to Alpha’s script and overall production plan. “Sources suggest crucial revisions are being made to both the screenplay and its execution to ensure the film lives up to the studio’s expectations,” the report stated. This indicates that Chopra is not leaving anything to chance and is focused on delivering a powerful and successful film.
What We Know About Alpha So Far
Fans got their first taste of Alpha during the post-credits scene of War 2. The scene featured a surprise appearance by Bobby Deol, who is now officially a part of the Spy Universe. In the clip, he is seen stamping an “Alpha” logo on a young girl’s hand, telling her their motto is “The first, the fastest, the strongest.”
This has led to a popular fan theory that the young girl is Alia Bhatt’s character in her younger days, and that Bobby Deol’s character trains her before eventually becoming her enemy. The film, which also stars Sharvari, is currently scheduled to be released this December.
