Legendary filmmaker Priyadarshan has just dropped two major bombshells for movie fans. While filming his next big-budget movie, Haiwaan, the director revealed that he is considering retirement in the near future. He also shared an exciting update: Malayalam cinema icon Mohanlal will have a surprise cameo in the film.
Priyadarshan Hints At Retirement After 100 Films
In a recent interview, Priyadarshan admitted that he is feeling the weight of his long and successful career. The veteran director shared that he hopes to retire after he completes his 100th film. “Once I complete these films, I hope to retire. I’m getting tired,” he said with a smile.
However, fans of the Hera Pheri series have a reason to cheer. Priyadarshan confirmed that he will definitely direct the much-awaited third film. “I don’t usually revisit my original films with sequels… But I will definitely make Hera Pheri 3, as the producers have been requesting it for a long time,” he stated. This means the comedy classic is one of the few projects on his list before he considers hanging up his boots.
Mohanlal To Make A Surprise Cameo In Haiwaan
Priyadarshan is currently busy with Haiwaan, which stars Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan. The director revealed that the film is inspired by his own 2016 Malayalam blockbuster, Oppam. In a huge surprise, he announced that Mohanlal, who starred in the original movie, will appear in Haiwaan in a special cameo role.
Keeping the details under wraps, Priyadarshan simply said, “His character will definitely be a surprise for the audience.” The film, which also stars Shriya Pilgaonkar and Saiyami Kher, is being made on a massive budget. Speaking about his frequent work with Akshay Kumar, Priyadarshan fondly called him “Bollywood’s Mohanlal,” highlighting their great working relationship.
A Special 100th Film For An Iconic Duo
Even as he talks about retirement, Priyadarshan is planning a very special milestone project. His 100th film as a director will feature his close friend and long-time collaborator, Mohanlal, in the lead role. This is a fitting tribute to their iconic partnership, which began with the director’s debut movie, Poochakkoru Mookkuthi (1984). This landmark film will bring their incredible journey full circle, celebrating one of Indian cinema’s most successful director-actor duos.
