Chelsea are yet to reach an agreement with RB Leipzig for Xavi Simons (22) as the transfer deadline looms. Speaking at a Sport Bild event – cited by Kicker – Red Bull CEO Oliver Mintzlaff reiterated what Leipzig sporting director Marcel Schäfer has already said.
In short, if Xavi is to leave, then Chelsea must meet RB Leipzig’s valuation. No less.
“There are certainly discussions and interested parties, of course,” said Mintzlaff. “But it has to be a good fit for all parties. And if that happens, then there could still be a departure. And if that doesn’t happen, then Xavi Simons is RB Leipzig’s player this season.”
With two-years remaining on his current deal, RB Leipzig hold all the cards when it comes to Xavi’s future. But the Dutchman has made it known throughout the summer that if he is to leave, then the Premier League would be his preferred destination with Chelsea pursuing the player.
However, it is reported that there has only been loose communications between Chelsea and Leipzig over a transfer for Xavi. The Premier League side have reportedly said to the 22-year-old that a move would only be possible if a player heads in the other direction. On top of this, Chelsea are focusing on trying to sign a central defender.
