Fabrizio Romano reports that Bayer Leverkusen are interested in Manchester City centre-back Manuel Akanji.
With it looking increasingly likely that Piero Hincapié will leave the club to join Arsenal, Leverkusen are preparing to enter the transfer market once again.
Former Borussia Dortmund defender Akanji is said to be one of the players on Leverkusen’s shortlist. Galatasaray tried to sign the Swiss defender earlier in the window for around €15m, which can likely be considered the asking price.
This summer, Leverkusen have already signed Jarell Quansah and LoÏc Badé to play at centre-back, while there are also Axel Tape and Jeanuël Belocian who can also play as centre-backs.
However, die Werkself will not stop there when it comes to strengthening their defence. At right-back, Lucas Vázquez is set to join the club from Real Madrid on a free transfer. Then, in midfield, the club has made an offer for Al-Qadsiah midfielder Ezequiel Fernández worth €25m. The interest in the Argentine is due to one of Aleix Garcia or Exeqiuel Palacios potentially leaving the club before the deadline.
