Werder Bremen have officially completed the capture of Southampton’s Yukinari Sugawara on loan. A purchase option for the Japanese international is known to be prat the deal. Sport Bild reports that Sugawara can join the Bundesliga outfit permanently for around €6m.
Bremen’s were able to take advantage of the fact that the 25-year-old’s agent wished for Sugawara to move to one of Europe’s top five leagues following Southampton’s relegation from the English top flight. The German club itself had an exigent need at right back.
“We are very happy that Yukinari has chosen us,” Werder personnel chief Peter Niemeyer noted in a club statement. “He has been in Europe for a long time and brings experience from the Premier League and the Dutch first division. We are convinced that he can help us immediately and are delighted with his signing.“
“Yukinari has proven his quality at a high level,” Bremen head coach Horst Steffen – who has been very vocal about the need for new signings – added. “He is a fast-paced, strong right-back who can also play other positions on the wing. In our conversations, he has shown a very positive attitude and mentality. I am convinced that he will be a good addition to our team.”
