Carney Chukwuemeka’s permanent transfer to Borussia Dortmund has at long last been confirmed. After passing his medical yesterday, the England U20 international was officially unveiled as BVB signing on a new contract valid until 2030. Kicker reports that the final negotiated transfer for the new Bundesliga professional totals €25m with bonuses included.
Dortmund had long been keen to retain the services of the player who delivered for them at certain critical times last season, but remained reluctant to pull the €30m purchase clause embedded in the 21-year-old’s loan agreement. After spending most of the summer trying to negotiate a new loan, Dortmund finally settled for a fee of €5m less.
“Carney demonstrated his enormous potential for us during the second half of the season,” BVB sporting director Sebastian Kehl noted in a club statement. “He can make the difference by repeatedly finding solutions in tight spaces and lends us an additional footballing element in midfield that is highly advantageous for us.“
“It was important for us to add quality and creativity to our attacking midfield,” Kehl’s BVB front office colleague Lars RIcken added. “We are delighted that we have been able to secure the long-term services of such a talented player as Carney and can now work together on his development.“
“It feels really good to be an integral part of BVB now,” Chukwuemeka himself said. “I’ve gotten to know this club, the coach, my teammates, and the fans over the past few months. I’m just happy that Borussia Dortmund is now my new football home.”
