Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has made a big decision on Andre Onana and Rasmus Hojlund ahead of Sunday’s meeting against Fulham at Craven Cottage.
United looking for first Premier League win
United will undoubtedly be looking to get their first three points on the board when they come up vs. Marco Silva’s men.
Amorim and his players got their 2025/26 Premier League season underway with a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Arsenal last weekend.
Although United delivered an impressive display and came close to scoring on several occasions, they ultimately fell short. However, there were plenty of positives to take away, and confidence within the squad remains high.
Onana and Hojlund were both left out of the matchday squad that faced Arsenal at Old Trafford. While Onana was fit, Amorim made the decision to exclude him, giving the nod to Altay Bayindir to start between the sticks.
Amorim later clarified that he hadn’t outright dropped Onana, explaining that his choice was based on Bayindir’s better match sharpness and the need to maintain healthy competition for places.
Hojlund, on the other hand, was fully omitted, with the Dane’s time at United looking like it has come to an end. It’s understood that Hojlund was told it would be in his best interests to leave, as he will struggle for significant first-team minutes following Benjamin Sesko’s arrival.
Serie A giants are thought to be closing in on the loan signing of Hojlund.
Now, it has been confirmed that Onana has made the trip to London for the clash against Fulham, but Hojlund has been left behind.
United’s travelling squad confirmed
According to the Manchester Evening News, Onana is in contention to replace Bayindir in goal.
Sesko is in line to make his full debut for the Red Devils, having come off the bench against Arsenal. Amad is another who is likely to return to the starting XI.
Apart from Hojlund, the other notable absentees are Lisandro Martinez and Noussair Mazraoui. Both defenders are still recovering from their respective injuries.
Here’s the confirmed United travelling squad: Andre Onana, Altay Bayindir, Tom Heaton, Matthijs de Ligt, Diogo Dalot, Tyler Fredricson, Luke Shaw, Leny Yoro, Ayden Heaven, Patrick Dorgu, Harry Maguire, Manuel Ugarte, Kobbie Mainoo, Casemiro, Mason Mount, Amad, Bruno Fernandes, Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, Benjamin Sesko, Joshua Zirkzee.
Fulham vs. United kicks off at 16:30 BST.
