    Arsenal join the race for Bayer Leverkusen’s Piero Hincapie

    The Athletic reports that Arsenal have joined the race for Bayer Leverkusen centre-back Piero Hincapie. The Gunners currently compete with Spurs for the services of the Ecuadorian international, who now most definitely appears to be leaving his Bundesliga club after four seasons. 

    Hincapie bade the Leverkusen fans a tearful farewell after the team’s Bundesliga fixture this past weekend. Multiple German footballing media sources report that the 23-year-old has lodged a transfer request. The 46-times-capped international wishes to continue his career in the EPL.

    The fact that Hincapie only just recently extended his B04 contract recently nevertheless means he will not come cheap. The exit clause in the player’s contract currently totals €45m. Fabrizio Romano confirms the Arsenal links, also noting that the club’s north London rivals have also submitted a bid.

    Kicker initially reported on Hincapie’s transfer request yesterday. In an unusual instance for Germany’s preeminent footballing publication, no additional information from the Leverkusen front office was able to be obtained.
