Black Coffee’s 2nd residency date cancelled as Brooklyn Mirage still not open

It’s now been nearly two months since Brooklyn Mirage was scheduled to reopen, and scheduled shows continue to be moved to other venues, and cancelled entirely. The latter is the fate that met the second date of Black Coffee planned Brooklyn Mirage residency. The first night, scheduled for May 4, was cancelled, and now the second, scheduled for July 3, isn’t happening either. There’s been no word from the venue, and Black Coffee does not seem to have addressed it directly on social media, but the ticketing site, Dice, lists it as cancelled.

Black Coffee still has residency dates scheduled on August 24 and October 19 at Brooklyn Mirage; stay tuned.

Earlier this month, Boiler Room NYC, which will features Boys Noize, Jenifa Maynja, Juicy romance, Ma Sha, Theo Parrish, Tinashe, Toccororo, DJ Swisha Floating Points, hainafromchina, Hiroko Yamamura, Soul Sugar, th4ys, Tohji, a Toro y Moi DJ set, and more, was moved from Mirage to Under the K Bridge on July 11 and 12, due to “Brooklyn Mirage opening delays.”

The last official announcement from Brooklyn Mirage came ahead of Memorial Day weekend, when they wrote:

We apologize to our incredible community of fans, artists, crew members, and staff for the delay. Although the Brooklyn Mirage is opening later than anticipated, we are making great progress towards opening our doors. We take responsibility for the delay and are working diligently with the City of New York to make sure that we meet all regulations and requirements, so that we can deliver a safe and unforgettable experience for everyone.

They also said at the time that they’d “share updates about our progress and expected opening date” by the end of that week, but neither have surfaced.

Meanwhile, Billboard reports that a NY hedge fund manager, Andrew Axelrod’s Axar Capital, has been “quietly co-managing” Avant Gardner, unopened Brooklyn Mirage included, since late last year.
