Borussia Dortmund line up Toulouse’s Charlie Cresswell as alternative to Aarón Anselmino

The Athletic reports that Borussia Dortmund have submitted an offer for Toulouse centre-back Charlie Cresswell. The Bundesliga outfit presently targets the young Englishman should a potential deal to acquire Chelsea’s Aarón Anselmino fall through. According to the report, Dortmund’s initial tender has fallen short of the Ligue 1 club’s expectations.

Cresswell moved to Toulouse from his native England on a €4.5m transfer from Leeds one year ago. Over the course of the last eight months, the 23-year-old has doubled his estimated market value from €5m to €10m. Cresswell served as a regular starter for Toulouse last year and also featured for the England U21 side that beat Germany in this summer’s U21 European Championship Final.

Anselmino obviously still constitutes the higher priority for BVB, though Chelsea’s obstinance when it comes to negotiations with Dortmund over the summer may very well lead to the potential double deal collapsing. Dortmund remain desperate to shore up their defensive ranks due to the longer term absences of German international Nico Schlotterbeck and Niklas Süle.
