Black Panther fans gather up, it’s time to return to Wakanda with a new and the highly anticipated animated series Eyes of Wakanda. After showcasing what fans are in for at the recent Annecy Festival. Marvel Studios has unveiled the first teaser of the four part series and its everything fans could ask for. While we all love the live-action movies that present Wakanda as the Afro futuristic nation, protected by a Black Panther, the upcoming series will take us back in time, truly.
The new teaser takes us back in time with a new protector, new dora milaje and a Wakanda, still ahead of its time. The clip seems to be similar to what was presented by showrunner Todd Harris during Annecy fest that took fans back to 1260 B.C., where our hero, a disgraced Dora Milaje warrior is tasked with retrieving stolen Vibranium artifacts. The animation looks slick, and the action, even better. The series will certainly elevate the Black Panther world as we know it.
What’s ‘Eyes of Wakanda’ About?
Eyes of Wakanda will explore the history of Wakanda and the legacy of the Black Panther through the eyes of Dora Milaje, with their loyalty tested on dangerous missions which includes time travel. Harris previously told Collider, “The beauty of Wakanda is that it’s a 10,000-year-old society, and they have a very succinct self-identity, and they’re preserving that. We get the chance to see the persistence and character of Wakandans. The premise of the show is, what’s the culture that builds a Black Panther? And you see this even in their generals, their sergeants, and everyday citizens.” He further explained the time travel plot, divulging:
“Everybody in Wakanda is kind of like a physicist that’s a Spartan. You see their patience over centuries to see work that they will never be able to see get finished, but they believe in their mission as a culture to see this work through. So, we kind of hopscotch through time as we see these people pursue the goals of their country, which is to preserve the secret of their technology and who they are.”
The series casts a stellar voice cast including Winnie Harlow, Cress Williams, Patricia Belcher, Larry Herron, Adam Gold, Lynn Whitfield, Jacques Colimon, Jona Xiao, Isaac Robinson-Smith, and many others.
Eyes of Wakanda premieres on Disney+ on August 6. You can check out the new teaser above and stay tuned to Collider for more such updates.
