Gasperini is the perfect coach for Roma

Former Atalanta striker German Denis weighed in on Gian Piero Gasperini’s arrival at Roma and what supporters can expect under the new manager.

The Argentine, who spent five seasons with La Dea, is confident Gasperini can get the best out of the Giallorossi squad—particularly players that are underperforming.

“I’ve seen a lot of his training sessions — they’re intense and demanding,” Denis told Radio Manà Manà Sport.

“One of his greatest strengths is bringing out the best in players who are underperforming. He expects maximum effort from everyone, and if you’re not in top physical shape, you won’t play.”

He continued, “He doesn’t care about big names — he treats everyone the same. He transformed Atalanta and, right now, I think he’s the perfect coach for Roma and their current squad.”

“You might not see his impact immediately, but the physical preparation will pay off.”

The 42 year-old also discussed the trio of Paulo Dybala, Matías Soulé, and Artem Dovbyk—who are expected to be the core of Gasperini’s attack.

“We all know what Dybala is capable of. He’s a player who can adapt, and under Gasperini’s training, his qualities will become even more evident,” explained Denis.

“Though, I’m a bit concerned about his recent injuries. As for Soulé, he’ll be a key player under Gasperini. He’s very talented and can grow a lot with the coach’s methods.”

Adding, “As a striker, it’d be a dream to play with Dybala and Soulé behind you. Given how attacking Gasperini’s teams play, I think Dovbyk will do really well.

“I really like him—he’s strong, physical, and technically gifted. I consider him one of the best strikers in the league.”

Finally, Denis discussed what might be in store for Roma on the transfer market this summer, with one name in particular coming to mind.

“I hope Roma can sign Franck Kessié,” he admitted.

“He’s a player who could offer so much in midfield. He’s strong, skilled, and has a big personality.”
