Hamburg and Tottenham close to sealing Luka Vuskovic loan deal.

Kicker and other German news sources report that Hamburg’s negotiations with Tottenham over a Luka Vuskovic loan deal are still ongoing. It appeared as if the Croatian centre-back would not be heading to the Bundesliga after a tight deadline imposed by Hamburg was missed last week. Hamburg have nevertheless apparently opted to give Spurs more grace time.

Newly promoted Hamburg are not in much of position to drive a hard bargain after a rough outing in the DFB Pokal laid bare the underlying weaknesses in Merlin Polzin’s team. Polzin also faces criticism for his decision to shake up the team leadership council by stripping longtime skipper Sebastian Schonlau of the captaincy. The HSV front office finds itself under pressure to seal more deals.

Fabrizio Romano reports that Hamburg and Tottenham are “close” to making the deal happen. Kicker claims that the matter should be finalized by this evening. One way or another, the Hanseatic city state club will know whether they can plan with Vuskovic for the coming season. HSV kick off the start of Bundesliga play against Borussia Mönchengladbach tomorrow.
