Juventus have stepped up their pursuit of Canadian striker Jonathan David following the player’s exit from international duty.

David, 25, saw his Gold Cup campaign end in disappointment after Canada were knocked out by Guatemala on penalties.

The Lille forward had given his side the lead during regular time and converted his penalty in the shootout, but it proved insufficient as Canada exited before the semi-finals.

The result marked the end of David’s national team obligations, leaving him free to focus on his next move. With his contract at Lille expiring, he is now officially a free agent.

Juve have long tracked David and now intend to accelerate negotiations. The Bianconeri see the former Gent striker as a key target in their summer rebuild, but the situation remains complex.

Sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli and general manager Damien Comolli are said to be leading efforts.

A major obstacle remains the uncertain future of Dušan Vlahović.

The Serbian forward, whose deal runs until 2026, is unwilling to accept a reduced extension and has shown no interest in offers to leave, effectively freezing Juve’s plans in the transfer market.

Despite this, Juventus are continuing talks with David’s representatives.

A deal in principle has been agreed regarding personal terms, which include a salary package of €6 million plus €2 million in bonuses.

However, the finer details are yet to be finalised. Disagreements persist over the signing-on fee—expected to be around €5-6 million—and agent commissions, where Juventus are pushing to reduce the current demand from €15 million to around €12 million.

Despite sporadic mentions, there has been no concrete reporting linking Man United with a serious move for Jonathan David.

The lack of interest is surprising—David offers pace, link-up play and a clinical edge in front of goal, qualities United are in urgent need of.

Whether an offer emerges remains to be seen.
