Newcastle see £50m Strand Larsen bid rejected by Wolves amid Isak impasse

Newcastle United have reportedly had a bid for Wolves striker Jorgen Strand Larsen rejected as they seek to add to their attacking options amid the drama around Alexander Isak.

Isak will miss his second successive game to start the new Premier League season on Monday when Newcastle face Liverpool at St James’ Park. The Sweden international is on strike as he attempts to force through a move to Liverpool, who have had one bid worth a reported £110m for Isak rejected by the Magpies.

Newcastle have seen several moves for strikers fall through during an otherwise productive transfer window. They have missed out on the likes of Liam Delap, Joao Pedro, Hugo Ekitike and Benjamin Sesko, and are said to want to sign two strikers before they would consider a sale of Isak. Newcastle let Callum Wilson leave following the end of last season, and William Osula is their only recognised central striker in Isak’s absence.

Brentford’s Yoane Wissa is determined to join Newcastle before the end of the transfer window on September 1, but the Bees have rejected two offers for the DR Congo international, the latest reported to be worth £35million plus £5m in add-ons.

And Newcastle have also identified Strand-Larsen as a target, submitting a £50million offer for the Norway international, according to multiple reports.

Wolves, who have started the season with two successive defeats, are reported to have rejected that bid, the Midlands club adamant a player whose loan move from Celta Vigo was made permanent last month is not for sale.

It is thought Newcastle will test Wolves’ resolve in that regard, though manager Vitor Pereira will understandably be keen not to sell a player who scored 14 Premier League goals last season to help them ensure Premier League survival.
