    Borussia Dortmund officially confirmed the rumored sale of centre-back Soumaïla Coulibaly to Racing Strasbourg late Monday evening. The 21-year-old returns to his native country, hopping across the border to Alsace for a reported base-transfer-fee of €7.5m  All reliable German footballing media sources presently confirm the existence of a bonus package with which the Bundesliga club can net another €1m. 

    Dortmund recently recalled Coulibaly early from his loan stint with Stade Brest in order to enable him to participate in the summer Club World Cup. The former PSG academy man nevertheless remained unused in all BVB’s six tournament fixtures. Coulibaly thus departs Westphalia having made only two Dortmund senior team appearances over the past five years. 

    Coulibaly’s Bundesliga club have still turned a handsome profit on him after acquiring him on a free in the summer of 2021. Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl was quick to wish the youngster well in a club-released statement. 

    “Soumi is an excellent young man who has unfortunately had to contend with injuries time and again,” Kehl’s statement read. “In Strasbourg, he can now sign a long-term contract and return to his home country. We wish him all the best and, above all, continued good health.”
