VfL Wolfsburg have confirmed midfielder Aster Vranckx’s loan out to US Sassuolo. The Belgian international departs his Bundesliga club on loan for the second time since moving to Wolfsburg in 2021. Vranckx also spent the 2022/23 campaign on loan in the Serie A with AC Milan. This time, he joins a newly promoted Italian top flight side.
Vranckx was among five players Wolfsburg have actively been seeking to offload. The nine-times-capped international failed to establish himself under new head coach Paul Simonis during training camp after making just 15 appearances across all competitions for die Wölfe last year.
Transfermarkt.de claims that the Italians have secured a €9m purchase option as part of the deal. Wolfsburg initially paid €8m to acquire Vranckx from KV Mechelen four summers ago. At present, the 22-year-old’s estimated market value (down from a peak of €12m) stands at €7m.
Vranckx remains under contract with his German club until 2029. The versatile midfielder has made a total of 63 German top flight appearances and scored two league goals
