Earlier this year, Saya Gray released her stunning debut album, SAYA, which took root after the end of a romantic relationship. Heading out on a solo cross-country road trip, Gray was inspired by the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, and Joni Mitchell. She even kept an acoustic guitar within reach, whenever inspiration hit. The result was a refinement of her bold avant-pop — yielding surreal songs packed with grief, intimacy, and growth. The rising Japanese-Canadian singer-songwriter recently brought those tracks on the road, beginning with a handful of North American dates. Here, Gray took us through some of the highlights.
