Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has been named the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) men’s Player of the Year for 2025, becoming the first footballer to claim the honour three times.

The 33-year-old forward enjoyed a stunning campaign as Liverpool reclaimed the Premier League title, finishing as the division’s top scorer with 29 goals and also providing 18 assists.

Salah had already been crowned Premier League Player of the Season and the Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year, completing a clean sweep of individual honours for 2024-25.

Speaking after collecting his latest award, Salah reflected on his journey from Egypt to the pinnacle of European football. “Of course I wanted to be a football player and I wanted to be famous and provide for my family, but you don’t think about the big stuff when you are still in Egypt,” he said.

“When you grow, you start to see things differently and you start to have ambition and you start to see the bigger picture.”

Salah beat competition from Liverpool team-mate Alexis Mac Allister, Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes, Newcastle striker Alexander Isak, Chelsea forward Cole Palmer, and Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice, who were also shortlisted.

Elsewhere, Aston Villa midfielder Morgan Rogers was named PFA Young Player of the Year after his impressive performances in Unai Emery’s side last season.

The PFA Merit Award went to former England manager Gareth Southgate, in recognition of his contribution to the national team and the wider game. Southgate stepped down in July after leading England to back-to-back European Championship finals and a World Cup semi-final during his eight-year tenure.
