New details have emerged about the highly anticipated horror-comedy, Thama, revealing a long-term strategy for the franchise. In a departure from typical monster-movie formulas, the central antagonist, a centuries-old vampire played by the formidable Nawazuddin Siddiqui, will not be defeated at the end of the film. This decision confirms that the makers are already laying the groundwork for a sequel, ensuring the character’s story continues beyond the initial installment, which also stars Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna.
An Immortal Antagonist For A New Franchise
According to sources close to the production, director Aditya Sarpotdar and producer Dinesh Vijan have intentionally designed the film’s conclusion to pave the way for a second chapter. Unlike the villain in Stree 2, who is vanquished, Nawazuddin’s vampire is being positioned as a near-invincible force who cannot be easily killed. This creative choice aligns with classic vampire folklore, which portrays them as powerful beings who can only be stopped by specific means. The decision ensures that the character’s journey will be explored further, with the ending of Thama reportedly hinting directly at what’s to come next for the powerful vampire.
Core Quartet Set To Return
Nawazuddin Siddiqui won’t be the only one carrying the story forward. The plan is for the film’s primary cast to become regulars in the burgeoning Thama franchise. Ayushmann Khurrana, Rashmika Mandanna, and Paresh Rawal are all set to reprise their roles in the sequel. This strategy mirrors the approach taken with the Stree films, where actors like Pankaj Tripathi and Aparshakti Khurana became integral recurring parts of the universe. In Thama, Ayushmann portrays a historian, while Paresh Rawal’s character is an expert on vampire mythology, creating a core team that will continue to confront the immortal antagonist in future installments.
Romance Takes Center Stage In Horror-Comedy
While Thama is the latest addition to a universe that includes the comedy-centric hits Stree and Bhediya, it is set to distinguish itself with a different emotional core. The film will place a strong emphasis on romance. The central plot revolves around Siddiqui’s vampire character, who travels to the present day to pursue an unrequited love story from centuries past. This romantic quest will form the central conflict of the film, setting it apart from the primarily comedic tone of its predecessors and promising a unique blend of love, horror, and humor for its Diwali release.
