Dallas’ record-breaking contract offer for Micah Parsons

During an interview with NFL Hall of Famer Michael Irvin, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said that the team made Pro Bowl pass rusher Micah Parsons a contract offer that would have made him the “highest-paid guaranteed” non-quarterback in the league. However, when the contract details were sent to Parsons’ agent, Jerry Jones said that the agent told the team “to stick it up our ass.”

“Micah and I talked,” Jones explained. “And then we were going to send it over to the agent, and we had our agreements on term, amount, guarantees, everything. We were going to send it over to the agent, and the agent said, ‘Don’t bother because we’ve got all that to negotiate.’ Well, I’d already negotiated. I’d already moved off my mark on several areas. So, the issue – very frankly – is we’ve had the negotiation in my mind, and the agent’s trying to get his nose in it right now and try to come in there and improve off the mark that we’d already set.”

“We’ve really got three years to work this thing out,” Jones added. “It’s a basic contract. It’s there to go. I did that with Dak. And we couldn’t agree, so Dak played his last year of his contract, then we franchised him. So it’s exactly what happened with Dak, and we moved forward, and ultimately we got a contract and made Dak the highest-paid player in the NFL. So the precedent is handling it like Dak… If he doesn’t, it’s very costly. It’s very costly for everybody.”

The Commanders trade Brian Robinson Jr. to the 49ers

The Washington Commanders are trading running back Brian Robinson Jr. to the San Francisco 49ers for a 2026 sixth-round draft pick, according to sources who spoke to Adam Schefter. This comes after Washington decided to hold Robinson out of the team’s preseason game against the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday night. Had the Commanders not been able to find a trade partner, it was believed that Robinson would’ve been released.

Brian Robinson Jr. was taken by the Commanders in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft. In three seasons with Washington, he has rushed for 2,329 yards and scored 20 total touchdowns, including 15 on the ground.

Is Adam Thielen on the trade block?

With the status of two of their top three wide receivers unclear for Week One of the regular season, the Minnesota Vikings have reached out to the Carolina Panthers to ask about the availability of wideout Adam Thielen, according to Adam Schefter. When asked about the trade rumors, Panthers head coach Dave Canales said that he is letting general manager Dan Morgan handle those conversations, according to NBC Sports’ Darin Gantt.

“Until the conversations really get real, there’s not a lot to talk about,” Canales told reporters earlier today.

The Steelers, Patriots, and Giants cut 33 total players

Ahead of the NFL’s 53-man roster deadline scheduled for this coming Tuesday, the Giants cut eight players, the Steelers cut 11 players, and the Patriots cut 14 players, according to NFL.com. Notable players released include journeyman quarterback Logan Woodside, former Colts wide receiver Zach Pascal, and former Denver Broncos defensive lineman Kyle Peko, who is the cousin of former Bengals defensive tackle Domata Peko.

    Injury concerns for high-profile rookies

Pittsburgh Steelers first-round draft pick and defensive tackle Derrick Harmon will likely miss the first month of the regular season after suffering an MCL sprain in last night’s game against the Carolina Panthers. There is a possibility that Harmon could start the season on the injured reserve, which would guarantee he misses the first four weeks of the season.

Meanwhile, New York Giants rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart cleared the NFL’s concussion protocol after his head was slammed into the ground during New York’s preseason finale against the New England Patriots on Thursday, according to ESPN’s Jordan Raanan. Head coach Brian Daboll said that Dart “got the wind knocked out of him,” and that “he’s good.”

The Panthers sign Taylor Moton to a two-year extension

The Carolina Panthers announced earlier today that they had agreed to a two-year contract extension with right tackle Taylor Morton, keeping him in Charlotte, North Carolina through the end of the 2027 season. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the extension is worth $44 million and includes $40 million guaranteed.

Taylor Moton was taken in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft by the Carolina Panthers, where he has spent his entire career. Since becoming a starter in 2018, he has only missed three of Carolina’s 116 regular-season games.

“Just an underrated guy,” said Panthers guard Robert Hunt. “Like, who I believe – if he was in a bigger market – would be a Pro Bowl guy. I knew a little bit about him before I got here. I never really watched too much, but I liked what he was doing. I’ve always been a fan of his game.”
