Victor Lindelof’s search for a new club has taken an unexpected twist following his Manchester United exit earlier in the summer.

    Lindelof parts ways with United

Lindelof officially parted ways with United at the end of June, following the expiry of his contract.

The club announced his exit after the final Premier League game of last season, which ended in a 2-0 win over Aston Villa at Old Trafford.

The Sweden international turned out 284 times for United during an eight-year spell. He joined the Red Devils from Benfica in a deal worth around an initial £30.7m plus a further £8.8m in performance-related bonuses.

Lindelof won the FA Cup and EFL Cup during his United stint, both of which came in the preceding two campaigns before he left.

He has been actively seeking a new club to take the next step in his career but his efforts have so far proved unsuccessful and he remains a free agent.

A previous report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Erik ten Hag’s Bayer Leverkusen were weighing up a move for Lindelof, but there has since been no progress and talks appear to have gone cold.

Now, according to SportWitness, the defender is currently training with a recently relegated team back home in Sweden while he looks for his next move.

Lindelof’s transfer situation takes odd turn

SportWitness note that Lindelof has been training with his hometown club Västerås SK, who were relegated from Sweden’s top flight last term.

Lindelof featured for Västerås SK’s senior team from 2009 to 2012 after making his first-team bow for the side in 2009 at just 15. It’s from Västerås SK that he sealed a switch to Benfica before then joining United.

Speaking about Lindelof and the ongoing uncertainty surrounding him, Sweden national team boss Jon Dahl Tomasson remarked, “In a perfect world he would be available, would have played the whole pre-season and all the matches.”

“But that’s not the case. These are things we have to deal with and that’s why I’m very happy to look back at the June matches.”

“We had some new faces but Sweden looked like Sweden.”
