Manchester United decided not to renew Victor Lindelof’s contract, which expired this summer. As a result, the Swede left after eight years at Old Trafford.

The 31-year-old never quite came close to fulfilling his potential in red, while injuries hampered his progress in recent years.

And despite knowing Ruben Amorim well from his days at Benfica, where both were teammates, the head coach opted to let the centre-back go.

He is yet to sign for a new club, but as per recent reports, he is finally inching closer to finding a new home.

    Fiorentina in talks with Lindelof

The Peoples Person relayed that Serie A side Fiorentina are in talks with the Sweden international and have made a significant offer.

A move to Florence would see the defender reunite with former teammate David de Gea, who has enjoyed a new lease of life since arriving at the Artemio Franchi Stadium.

However, it is not a done deal by any stretch of the imagination, with reputed journalist Alfredo Pedulla claiming two Premier League clubs are also chasing the Swedish captain.

Those two clubs, namely Everton and Brentford are ready to offer Victor Lindelof the chance to remain in England, where he is well-settled.

    Everton, Brentford join the race

“Fiorentina is closely monitoring defender Lindelof, who was released by Manchester United , and has made a significant offer, but is facing competition from Everton and Brentford,” Pedulla wrote.

As for his former club, they do not have plans to replace him this window, shelving their plans to recruit a new centre-back until next year.

Currently, their main focus seems to be on strengthening in goal, with Senne Lammens, and Dominik Livakovic on their radar, while they are expected to reignite their pursuit of Brighton’s Carlos Baleba to strengthen in midfield.

Angelo Stiller also remains an option, but his arrival seems to be linked with Kobbie Mainoo or Bruno Fernandes’ future at the club.
