Kicker reports that West Ham United have expressed interest in Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Aleix Garcia. The 28-year-old is among the players at his Bundesliga outfit who have entertained the notion of leaving amid the massive squad upheaval this summer. Garcia maintains an estimated €20m market value. Garcia joined Leverkusen only last summer from FC Girona for an €18m transfer fee.
The imminent arrival of Ezequiel “Equi” Fernandez may leave Garcia without starting prospects alongside captain Robert Andrich in midfield. The five-times-capped Spanish international thrived under former B04 head coach Xabi Alonso last season, but has struggled to find his footing under new head coach Erik ten Hag in two competitive appearances this year.
Garcia managed to register an assist in Leverkusen’s opening round Pokal win over SG Sonnenhof Aspach on a late goal. He was nevertheless among the weakest components for Germany’s red company team in their Bundesliga opening day loss against Hoffenheim. Die Werkself would likely have little qualms about selling Garcia if the Hammers are interested.
